The Mediterranean’s coasts are always packed to the brim and finding a vacant corner on the sands might be a tiring experience. If frolicking with the bustling swarms of tourists doesn’t please you and you don’t fancy brushing your shoulders with the half of the Europe, try these Mediterranean shores for a change which will give you an entirely new taste of the Sea.

When you hear of Mediterranean, you start visualizing long stretches of golden sands plunging gently into the navy blue waters. But Marseille is something different and it might not fit in your preconceived notion of the Mediterranean. This is a lively and bustling port city in the south of France, which has been a crossroad of migration and commerce for centuries. The waters along its shores are swarmed by ferries and containers moored to the anchor as well as sailing off the shores. There’s much more to Marseille than just a momentous port, its cosmopolitan nature has made it the centre of ethnic and delightful cuisines with their origins from across the globe, which are followed by a locally produce Pastis. The highlight remains to be the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde; a Neo-Byzantine church with enigmatic architectural design.

Most of the Greek’s islands have been much enchanted for instance Mykonos, Santorini and Corfu. These islands have kept postcards vendors in business for years now and they barely need any introduction. But there are islands in the Greece which dance altogether to a different tune. There are still islands where life revolves around fishing and chilling off open air, rustic Taverna to escape the blazing hot sun outside. Paxos, Folegandros, Meganisi and Skopelos are a few among them. The Best criterion to choose an island which is unmarred by tourism is that it shouldn’t have a runway/airport; such islands have been able to held on their indigenous appeal and are an escapist paradise. Choices of such island proliferate but it takes zeal for exploration to find one. Just hop on a ferry and keep looking.
